Nigeria to participate in regional female cricket tournament

The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) released a list of 16 players selected to represent Nigeria at an invitational women tournament in Ghana later this month.

Musa Ehizoje, the Federation’s spokesman, said in a statement that the list has 14 squad players and two others on standby.

The players have been in camp for the last 10 days in Kaduna undergoing series of trial matches. The Chairman, NCF’s Board of Selectors, George Wilshire, as well as the Federation’s Head of Technical and members of the coaching crew, were all part of the selection panel, he said

The listed players have satisfactorily been considered as the best 14 to represent the country. However, we are aware that there is a lot of work to be done in the remaining days prior to the tournament in Ghana,” he said.

Ehizoje listed the players to include Blessing Frank, Blessing Etim, both from Akwa Ibom, Agatha Obulor, Samantha Agazuma and Joy Efosa from Edo, as well as Kafa Olusunde from Oyo State.

The list also has Hannah Ayoka and Ruth Ayannaike from Lagos State, Rachael Samson from Kwara, and Seun Awonusi from Ogun.

The rest are Mary Desmond and Blessing Nwobodo from Kaduna State, Azuka Onwunjoibi from Anambra and Fineface Fate from Rivers.

The two players on standby are Esther Oghenekevwe and Sabastina Izuakor.

The team will be captained by Blessing Etim, with Azuka Onwunjoibi.
