The Nigerian Army has renewed calls to repentant Boko Haram fighters wishing to surrender to do so without wasting more time.
Major-General Lucky Irabor, the Theatre Commander for Operation Lafiya Dole in northeastern Nigeria where the Boko Haram militants are active, made the call when speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) Nursery School and a Day Care Centre at the Maimalari Barracks in Maiduguri, the capital of northeastern Borno State.
Gen. Irabor said those who failed to surrender would pay the price for being stubborn. “I will like to use this opportunity to encourage those of them who have made up their minds to surrender, that now is the time for them to do so, because the olive branch is being offered to them. But where they fail to take the olive branch, they will pay the price for stubbornness. We will ensure that they are uprooted out of the entire area in a short while.”
He said that the military was determined to uproot the terrorists from the entire North East during its Operation Crackdown. “We are pleased with the socio-economic activities that are returning in the North East, that is what had actually fired us up to ensure that we chase the criminals out of the place,” he added.
