Post: Nigerian Army Emphasizes Media’s Role in Countering Propaganda

Abuja: The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Apolonia Anele, has called upon media professionals and military spokespersons to act as ambassadors of truth to counter propaganda and shape public perception, supporting national security. Anele made this appeal during the closing of the Directorate of Army Public Relations Combined Third and Fourth Quarters Media Training Seminar 2025, held at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja.

According to Voice of Nigeria, Lieutenant Colonel Anele highlighted that the discussions at the seminar reinforced the idea that in the current complex security environment, victories are achieved not just through firepower but also by mastering information. She pointed out that propaganda and disinformation have become tools used by terrorists, secessionists, and saboteurs to undermine national stability.

Anele emphasized the collective responsibility to prevent falsehoods from eroding public trust, weakening national morale, or undermining the sacrifices of troops. She stressed the crucial role of the media as strategic partners in shaping narratives, building resilience, and garnering public support for security operations.

The seminar, she noted, strengthened trust between the military and the media while paving the way for responsible, balanced, and conflict-sensitive reporting. The Acting Director praised media representatives, security spokespersons, and participants for their dedication, describing the partnership as “stronger and unbreakable.”

Anele concluded by urging all involved to continue as ambassadors of truth, uphold professional ethics, and collaborate in building a safer, stronger, and more united Nigeria.
