The Universal Basic Education Commission in Nigeria, UBEC has commended the ongoing nationwide National Personnel Audit of all Basic Education institutions.
The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Dr Hammid Bobboyi, who made this known during the monitoring of the Personnel Audit in some schools in the nation's capital, Abuja, said with collaboration from Private Schools, data challenge in the Basic Education sub sector would become history.
Dr Bobboyi also lamented that the exercise is not given the expected support from Private School owners.
We are happy with the progress that has been made but we have to understand that this is the first time in the history of the personal audit when private schools have been included, initially in the last two decades it has been the public schools, whenever you start new thing ,you encounter problems
The Executive Secretary of UBEC also expressed satisfaction in the conduct of the personnel audit exercise in Benin, Asaba; he added that private schools in the south-southern region were enthusiastic about the process.
We were in Asaba and Benin zone and we are very much pleased with what we have seen there and they already finished the private schools. We visited many private schools that were enthusiastic about the exercise
He added that the commission interacted with leaders of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools NAPSS, to ensure better collaboration.
The Chairman Governing Board of UBEC, Dr Mahmood Abubakar, also expressed satisfaction at the conduct and said all agencies who were supposed to monitor were all involved at the process.
According to Dr Abubakar,So far so good we are happy with the situation everybody that is supposed to be there at the schools are there, State Universal Basic Education Board ,UBEC ooficials and other agencies collaborating with us to make sure we get all the necessary data are all here
On the Private School owners, Abubakar said if license must be given to the commission to inspect private schools, they must all comply with key rules and regulation.
One of UBEC Coordinators, Omowunmi Fransisca said officials deplored to certain areas were faced with terrain challenges.
The only challenge we face was terrain challenges whereby reaching the interior parts of the area council was a challenge due to no access road to the schools but we surmounted the challenges by using motorcycle She said.
One thousand, eight hundred and sixty-two (1862) schools were inspected in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, 305 schools in Kuje, 479 in Bwari , Gwagwalada 503, Kwali 222 ,Abaji 126, Bwari 111 schools.
It would be recalled that the 2018 National Personnel Audit, NPA of all Basic Education Institutions in Nigeria was flagged of in the first quarter of 2018.
