The Ministry of environment will address the pollution aftermath following the massive flooding in Maiduguri.
The Minister of environment Alhaji Balarabe Abbas Lawal, made this known during a Symphony visit to governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno state, by the recent flood disaster that occured in Maiduguri the Borno state capital.
The Minister Balarabe Abbas, expressed his sympathy for the tragedy that occured which caused losses of lives and property of people of the state, and lamented, that ‘The Ministry will deploy a team of experts to Maiduguri to address the environmental challenges caused by the recent flood disaster that occured in Maiduguri, the team which includes Specialists in pollution management, environmental sustainability and disaster response, will work closely with the Borno state government to asses the situation and provide the necessary support.’
Abbas added that,’The tragic loss of lives, displacement of thousands of Families and distractions of homes, farmlands and critical inf
rastructure have caused much hardship in the government and people of Borno state because of that we will bringing all the resources of the Ministry to Borno to stay and address the aftermath of this flood and we will work closely with the Borno state government to provide Technical and logistical support to address the challenges posed by this unfortunate event.’ he said.
The Minister commended governor Zulum for his leadership in handling the calamity and assured that the ministry will provide all necessary support to Borno in it’s recovery effort. he added.
In his response, governor Zulum of Borno state, appreciated the Minister of his resilience and show of his concern and called for sustainable solutions to the issue of the ( Alau Dam) and desertification facing the state, ‘We need sustainable solutions to these environmental challenges to prevent future occurrences.’
Governor Zulum sought the Minister’s support in addressing the problem of Elephants destroying Farmlands in two local government areas
Kala-Balge and Gamboru Ngala respectively. he added.
