Abuja: The Nigerian Government has directed contractors handling the expansion of the Mararaba-Keffi Road to speed up work on the critical highway. The Minister of State for Works, Muhammad Bello Goronyo, made the call when he inspected the ongoing reconstruction and expansion of the Mararaba-Keffi Road (43.65km) under the Tax Credit Scheme.
According to Voice of Nigeria, the project is a crucial infrastructure upgrade under the Road Infrastructure Development and Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Scheme and is being executed by China Harbour Engineering Company Nigeria Limited. The Minister expressed concern over the pace of work as the road, which serves as a vital link between the Federal Capital Territory and Nasarawa State, is plagued with persistent traffic congestion affecting commuters significantly.
Goronyo reminded the contractors of the permission granted by the Federal Government for night-time construction activities to ensure faster delivery and mitigate the hardship faced by road users. He emphasized the national importance of the project due to the massive volume of traffic and the suffering of many public servants. The Minister urged the contractor to utilize the night-time working approval to meet the delivery schedule.
In response, Dong Hong, the Project Manager representing China Harbour Engineering Company Nigeria Limited, assured the Minister and the Nigerian public that the project remains on track and will be completed within the agreed timeline. Hong stated that the team is fully mobilized and committed to delivering quality work on time, recognizing the road’s importance and the urgency to ease traffic for the people.
