Nigerian President reiterates commitment to good governance

Nigeria’s President, Muhammad Buhari, has vowed to continue providing sustained good leadership and purposeful governance focused on infrastructure development and enhancing people’s lives in the country.

President Buhari stated this when he led All Progressive Congress (APC) campaign team on courtesy visit to Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, in his palace in Sokoto State North West Nigeria.

He said his administration’s achievements were glaring as previously no fewer than 17 local government areas were being controlled by boko haram terrorists group, but now no local government is in the hand of the terrorists.

He added that the armed groups deploy other tactics of using girls as bomb carriers and other pockets if crimes which were all reduced drastically and contained.

The President explained that it was on record that between 1999 to 2014, Nigeria produced about 2.4 million barrels of crude oil sold at higher than 100 US Dollars.

He challenged those in doubt to verify from financial institutions and countries buying the nation’s oil adding that maladministration had been tackled by his administration.

Leadership is a trust, with our knowledge we will not allow anybody to cheat people or collaborate on any dishonest dealings President Buhari said.

He said the country has witnessed a mass boost in agriculture which helped realise food security and youth employment across the country.

The President added that within the three and the half years of his administration government procured fertilizer and sell to farmers at a subsidized rate.

We made fertilizer abundant and affordable which facilitate increased bumper harvest and people minds shift as many at present practice farming because if the gains, he added.

The President assured Sultan Abubakar that such good development would be sustained if re-elected for the second term, noting that they were in that palace for routing blessings as being done.

Responding, the Sultan welcomed the group and urged them to consider their visit as home coming, noting that traditional rulers remained fathers of all and pledged to continue their fatherly advice for the interest of people.

He discouraged corruption in all forms and pledged to partner with all organs to promote transparent and accountable dealings.

According to him, Islam discouraged evils and called on people to cooperate with organisations to promote good governance.

The Sultan commended Buhari on tacking security challenges and urged government to provide working tools and encouragement to security agencies as well as urged personnel to live up the expectations.

He counselled politicians against breeding violence in all forms and underscored the importance of peaceful coexistence.

He also urged politicians to practice the game according law and prayed fur successful conduct of 2019 general elections noting that politicians should no consider police as war or criminal activities.

Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar presented a pamphlet on good leadership he published to President Buhari and his aides.

Among the delegation was APC National Chairman Adams Oshoimole, Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara state.

Others were former Governors of Zamfara, Senator Ahmad Sani Yarima, Borno Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, Minister of Defence Mansur DanAli, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Hajia Ai’sha Abubakar among others.
