Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba says President Muhammadu Buhari has shown a good example to Nigerians in the observance of the protocols on COVID-19.
Shehu made the remark on Friday while speaking to State House Correspondents, soon after observing the Friday congregational prayer at the Presidential Villa mosque.
He said: “It is twelve weeks. This mosque in the State House hadn’t opened for the Jumma’at prayer.
“The President, as a citizen and a leader of the people, has a duty to show the Nigerian people the way to observe the prescribed protocols as they exist in the FCT and this is what the President has done.”
Shehu said all Nigerians need to follow the President’s good example.
“It is expected that Nigerians will go to their places of worship by observing the prescriptions as indicated, from State to State because without this, corona virus cannot be defeated. Otherwise, all of the gains that had been made will be reversed
“So, I think this is an essential lesson President Buhari has indicated and should be observed by Nigerians,” he said.
The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 had given permission for the reopening of worship centres with a caveat that state governments should draw up protocols on how to reopen, with strict adherence to health advisories on the pandemic.
