Nigeria’s cabinet honours Emovon, victims of Lagos explosion

Nigeria’s cabinet on Wednesday observed a minute silence in honour of the late Prof. Emmanuel Emovon and the victims of Sunday’s explosion in Lagos.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, called for the minute silence before the commencement of this week’s meeting with President Buhari Muhammadu Buhari presiding.

The Late Emovon, a professor of chemistry, was Nigeria’s Minister of Science and Technology in the military administration of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida.

He was also Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos.

As minister, Prof. Emovon established the Raw Materials and Development Council; the Nigerian Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Development and the Sheda Science and Technology Complex, Abuja.

movon died on February 20 this year at the age of 91.

The explosion in Lagos on Sunday morning was reported to have claimed 15 lives.

The cabinet prayed for the repose of the soul of the late Prof. Emovon and those of the victims of the explosion.
