Following an impressive 3-1 victory over Thomas Maxime of France in the quarter-finals, Africa’s final contender, Isau Ogunkunle from Nigeria, has advanced to the para table tennis semi-finals in Paris.
He expressed his determination to strive for the top spot in Paris and he’s looking forward to the upcoming matches.
Isau Ogunkunle has continued his giant strides at the ongoing Paralympics, securing qualification into the semifinals of men’s Singles Class 4 Para-Table Tennis.
Ogunkunle defeated the home favourite, Maxime Thomas (a triple Paralympic bronze medalist), recovering from a set down to win 3-1 (9-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-6). This is the second match the Nigerian is coming out tops against a top-seeded player.
In his Paralympic career up to his arrival in Paris, Ogunkunle had only made it to the quarterfinals during the Tokyo 2021 Games. However, he is now set to compete in his debut semifinal match at the Paralympics.
