The Northern Elders Forum, NEF, has pledge total support to the leadership of the Acting President of Nigeria, Professor Osinbajo as he leads the country while President Buhari is on medical vacation.
The Vice Chairman of NEF, Mr. Paul Unongo at a media briefing in Kano state north western Nigeria said the group repose confidence on the acting president to stir the affairs of the nation constitutionally while the President is away.
We pray for the Vice President and give him full support and urge him to carry out his duty as expected constitutionally.
Do not pitch yourself against the president and the people of Nigeria as you carry out the mandate, admonished Mr. Unongo.
The group urged the Vice President and other relevant institutions to carry on with the anti-corruption war.
We are aware that some people want to take advantage of the President’s absence to scuttle some good work of the administration. This must not be allowed to happen. We warn them to desist, warned the Vice Chairman.
He commended President Buhari for upholding the constitution of Nigeria by always transferring power to the Vice president each time the need arises.
According to Unongo, the group is ready to engage the 19 northern sates of the country to carry out meaningful development that will enhance the wellbeing of the people and by extension the entire country.
The north will be honest and willing to engage any group. It will as well resist any attempt to label it as hostile area and subsequently resist parochial views that are outside the constitution of Nigeria, explained the elder statesman.
He commended the federal government for ensuring the release of some of the adopted Chibok girls while urging it to make sure everything is done for the remaining ones to be freed soonest.
Unongo reminded the northern governors of their responsibilities of enhancing development in the region. More so by emulating the giant and gainful stride of governor Umar Ganduje of Kano state.
He said the governor used his wisdom to ensure that abandoned projects with meaningful impact on the people were resuscitated for the benefit of the masses while new projects are being initiated and completed, all in the face of economic downturn in the country.
