The Chairman of Northern States Governors, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe Stathas extended his heartfelt sympathy to the government and people of Borno State following the devastating floods that struck Maiduguri, its surroundings, and parts of Jere Local Government Area.
The flooding, triggered by the overflow of the Alau Dam, has submerged large sections of Maiduguri, including essential infrastructure and residential areas, displacing thousands and causing severe hardship.
A statement by the Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum has on behalf of the 19 northern governors, given the assurance to Governor Babagana Zulum and the people of Borno State of their solidarity and support, especially for those directly impacted by the floods.
Governor Yahaya also expressed concern for other northern states and regions across Nigeria facing similar flooding challenges.
He urged the Federal Government and humanitarian organizations to step up their relief efforts.
While praising the swift ac
tions of the Borno State government, emergency responders, and volunteers, the NSGF Chairman called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant agencies to scale up their assistance, particularly for vulnerable groups such as women and children.
He prayed for the safety and well-being of all affected communities, expressing confidence that, through collective effort, they would overcome this adversity and emerge stronger.
