NPFL: Rangers and Kwara United End in Goalless Stalemate in Enugu

Enugu: Rangers International Football Club of Enugu played to a goalless draw against Kwara United FC of Ilorin in the Match Day 10 fixture of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) 2025/2026 season at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the match commenced with Rangers dictating the pace from the onset, as they sought to leverage their home advantage. The Flying Antelopes dominated the play right from the first whistle, but their efforts were thwarted by poor finishing and the impressive performance of Kwara United’s goalkeeper.

The home side came agonizingly close to breaking the deadlock in the 44th minute when Chukwuemeka Agu’s free kick from outside the 18-yard box clattered against the crossbar, leaving the home supporters in a state of anticipation. Despite maintaining pressure, Rangers struggled to convert their opportunities into goals, which led to increasing anxiety among their fans.

The second half saw continued offensive efforts from Rangers, who were unable to capitalize on their chances to secure a victory. On the other hand, Kwara United made attempts to snatch a win but lacked the necessary determination to secure all three points.

As a result of the draw, Rangers now hold 12 points from nine matches and occupy the 12th position in the league standings. The absence of Godwin Obaje, their key forward, due to injury, was a significant factor in their lack of goal-scoring prowess, as lamented by Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu in his post-match interview. “It is glaring now that without Obaje, we cannot score goals,” he stated.

Kwara United’s Coach, Suleiman Ashafat, expressed contentment with the draw, indicating that their objective was to secure points on their trip to Enugu.
