Abuja: The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing partnerships with the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) to foster transparency and accountability in public administration. Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, Director-General of NYSC, made this statement during a courtesy visit by the BPP Director-General and his delegation at the NYSC headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.
According to Voice of Nigeria, General Nafiu commended the Bureau for its support in ensuring that the scheme’s procurement processes consistently comply with due process. He described the BPP as a vital regulatory body that plays a key role in enhancing accountability, professionalism, standardisation, and the effective management of government resources across ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
General Nafiu emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, “We will continue to collaborate, take a cue and follow due process so that we don’t fall out of line. We have a Community Development Service (CDS) group, through which we can deepen our collaboration.”
Speaking earlier, the Director General of BPP, Dr Adebowale Adedokun, highlighted the need to stem the tide of corrupt practices in the country. He stressed the importance of the bureau’s ongoing changes in the procurement process being known and adhered to by all Nigerians. Dr Adebowale commended the NYSC Director General for his commitment to due process in the scheme’s procurement activities and acknowledged NYSC’s critical role in national development.
He further praised NYSC for grooming youths who will develop the country’s agricultural industry and drive value for money through entrepreneurship. Dr Adebowale emphasized the need to build the mindset of Nigerian graduates for national development and outlined the BPP’s responsibilities, including public advocacy and enlightenment in collaboration with regulatory bodies and specialized agencies.
Dr Adebowale stated that the BPP would continue to ensure that government agencies perform maximally in their statutory responsibilities. He also requested participation in the orientation course to sensitize corps members on the important roles of procurement in national development and the values of ongoing reforms through due process. “We are here to seek further collaboration and strengthen the existing partnership with NYSC to drive national growth and economic development,” Adebowale said.
