Benin: Former Governor of Edo, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun on his success in the recent governorship election held in the state. Obaseki expressed his sentiments through a statement, emphasizing the importance of the victory as a reflection of the Osun people’s decision to grant Adeleke another four-year term.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Obaseki, who currently serves as a Researcher/Scholar at the School of African Studies, Boston University, United States of America, highlighted the significance of the election outcome as a testament to the ineffectiveness of anti-democratic strategies. He stated, “Your victory sends a clear message that when Nigerians stand together with courage, determination and common purpose, they can defend democratic choices and compel leaders to act in the best interests of the people.”
Obaseki further shared insights from his political journey, underscoring that a challenging election, ultimately resolved by the people’s decision, serves as a reminder to public officials that their allegiance should always be to the citizens. He called on Adeleke to focus his second term on the development, welfare, and progress of Osun.
