Obiano presents N6 M to officers’ widows

By John Ndu : The Anambra State Government has presented N 6 million palliative to the wives of Five police officers and one DSS personnel who lost their lives in the course of their duties.

The widows, Six in number got N1 million each.

The five deceased police officers were Cyril Onyia, Insp Suaibu Usman, Sgt Ike Anari, Sgt Matthew Nguru and Sgt Julius Mathew and Anthony Aneto.

Presenting the monetary donations at the Governor’s Lodge Amawbia, the State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano said he will continue to appreciate the efforts of security personnel who had been committed to ensuring safety of lives and prosperity.

Governor Obiano who regretted the untimely death of the officers, announced that his administration will foot the medical bill of one police officer who is currently receiving treatment in the hospital due to some critical injuries sustained in the course of the battle.

Describing the deceased as gallant officers who had contributed to the security of the state, the governor said he will continue providing the welfare of security personnel and invest heavily to further procure facilities that will aid their duties.

Reacting, the State Commissioner of Police, C. P Garba Umar expressed gratitude to the governor for intervening in their condition, saying the gesture will comfort and relieve them of their pains.

The CP further assured the Governor of his resolve to uphold the safest status of the state.

Responding, one of the widows and the wife of late Sgt Matthew Nguru , Mrs Sophia Nguru thanked the governor for identifying with them in their difficult moment.

Others present at the occasion were the State Director of the DSS, Ishaq Yusuf, senior Police Officers, government functionaries, and relatives of the deceased.
