Ogun set to host 3rd edition of African Drums festival

The Ogun state capital, Abeokuta, South West Nigeria is set to host the 3rd edition of the African Drum Festival from 19th to 21st April, 2018.

The State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun stated this at a press briefing says that the annual cultural event is targeted to reawaken the consciousness of the people about the African drums.

He describes the festival as unique stressing that the African drum festival promotes unity amongst Africans showcasing the State’s cultural heritage to the world.

The 2018, African Drum Festival with the theme, ‘Reviving our culture in Drums, is aimed at bringing everybody together, which serves as an avenue for social development in Nigeria, Africa and the Global society.

The 3 day event would witness Conferences on Drums, Workshop as well as exhibition which will enrich the state economically.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun said that the African Drums Festival has come to stay.

This is Ogun state, what we have is system driven. The drum festival has come to stay and it will continue even after us, he said.

He added that the festival has been calendared by the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture and it would be staged every third week of April each year.

It has been calendared by the Federal ministry of information and culture that every third Thursday of April every year is the African drum festival.

This festival will promote the cultural heritage of the state and boost the hospitality business of the state.

Fourteen African countries, Seventeen foreign troupes and Thirty States have confirmed their participation at the 2018 festival.
