Post: Ohanaeze Ndigbo Plans Economic and Housing Summit in Abuja

Abuja: The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter, has announced plans to host an economic and housing summit as part of its ongoing efforts to advance wealth creation, home ownership, and economic empowerment among the Ndigbo community.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Chief Andrew Ugwu, President of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo FCT chapter, revealed during a news conference in Abuja that the summit is scheduled for the first week of December at the Transcorp Hilton. The event aims to gather policymakers, financial institutions, real estate developers, investors, and other key stakeholders to address economic and housing challenges facing its members in the FCT and beyond.

Ugwu highlighted that the summit discussions will cover investment opportunities, wealth sustainability, mortgage accessibility, diaspora housing schemes, and sustainable urban development. The initiative seeks to establish pathways to economic prosperity and home ownership for Ndigbo residing in the Federal Capital Territory. He emphasized the organization’s commitment to ensuring that every Igbo individual in the FCT has access to home ownership and economic dignity.

In addition to the summit, the Ohanaeze president announced the upcoming launch of the Ohanaeze Cooperative Society during the 2026 Igbo Day on September 29. This economic platform aims to mobilize resources, provide accessible credit facilities, and support investments in agriculture, trade, real estate, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The cooperative underscores the organization’s dedication to transitioning from cultural celebration to tangible economic empowerment for the Igbo community in the FCT.

The annual Igbo Day celebration will feature traditional music, dance, cuisine, arts, exhibitions, and discussions focused on unity and community development. To ensure the successful execution of these programs, Ugwu inaugurated a projects committee led by Mrs. Ginika Tor, with Chief Favour Odeta as secretary. Tor expressed gratitude for the opportunity and conveyed optimism for the success of the 2026 Igbo Day. She mentioned that while the initiatives prioritize South-East indigenes, they may later extend to other residents of the nation’s capital.

Committee member Mrs. Becky Okoroafor also expressed her dedication to the cause, stating her readiness to make sacrifices for the Igbo community in Abuja.
