Abuja: Former lawmaker Sam Onuigbo has emphasized President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, infrastructure advancements, and political inclusivity as key reasons for supporting his re-election in 2027. Onuigbo shared these insights during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja, evaluating the administration’s accomplishments since it began in 2023.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Onuigbo highlighted the removal of the fuel subsidy as a significant economic decision, characterizing it as a ‘bold and courageous’ move. He noted the substantial investment of over N303 billion into the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, which has supported students and contributed to the Gross Domestic Product growth from 2.74 percent in 2023 to 4.43 percent.
In discussing the oil and gas sector, Onuigbo pointed to the administration’s policies that led to increased refining output and improved domestic energy supply. He remarked that services now constitute over 56 percent of the GDP, while oil contributes about four percent. Nigeria’s foreign direct investment exceeded 20 billion dollars in 2026, with cumulative inflows surpassing 50 billion dollars since 2023.
Onuigbo also acknowledged the establishment of the South-East Development Commission (SEDC), which aims to support reconstruction and development in the region. He highlighted infrastructure projects like the Enugu-Port Harcourt and Enugu-Onitsha roads, the Second Niger Bridge, and the expansion of Enugu airport as significant achievements.
The former lawmaker praised Tinubu’s administration for appointing senior military officers from the Southeast, demonstrating increased political inclusion. He underscored the administration’s policies as beneficial to Nigerians, especially the Igbo community, which is actively engaged in businesses nationwide.
Onuigbo commended regional development commissions, particularly the North-East Development Commission (NEDC), for their efforts in rebuilding infrastructure damaged by insurgency. He urged state governments to ensure that increased Federation Account allocations lead to improved services at the grassroots level.
Highlighting the student loan scheme, Onuigbo stated that about one million students have benefited from it, marking it as one of the administration’s major policies. He differentiated it from other financial aid programs, emphasizing its concrete impact.
As the newly elected president of Globe Legislators International, Onuigbo acknowledged President Tinubu’s commitment to addressing climate change and promoting green industrialization. He noted the establishment of two lithium processing plants in Nasarawa as significant initiatives under the administration.
Onuigbo expressed optimism about Nigeria’s progress against insecurity and emphasized the importance of maintaining the momentum. He encouraged Nigerians to evaluate the administration based on tangible achievements, asserting that the combination of economic reforms, infrastructure development, education, and political inclusion would bolster support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
