Osinbajo Leads ECOWAS Election Observation Mission to C´te d’Ivoire


Abuja: The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has appointed Nigeria’s former Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, to head its Election Observation Mission for the upcoming presidential election in C´te d’Ivoire. This appointment was confirmed in a statement released by the ECOWAS Secretariat to newsmen in Abuja.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, the election is scheduled for October 25, and the mission will be operational from October 19 to October 29. This deployment aligns with the ECOWAS Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance. As the Head of Mission, Osinbajo will lead a team of eminent West Africans who will engage with key national stakeholders to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.



The team is also tasked with fostering cooperation with other international and domestic observer groups and assessing the conduct of the polls. This initiative highlights ECOWAS’s firm commitment to promoting peace, stability, and credible elections within the region.
