The House of Assembly in Osun State, southwest Nigeria has been commended for fostering cohesiveness and unity of purpose in governance, thereby catalysing development in the state.
Governor Adegboyega Oyetola gave the commendation at the Special Plenary Session to commemorate the one year anniversary of the 7th Assembly in Osogbo, the state capital.
He said the lawmakers have demonstrated a high sense of patriotism, forthrightness and commitment since its inauguration.
Oyetola lauded the Assembly for being supportive of the other two arms of government particularly the Executive without compromising its independence.
He attributed some of the landmark achievements the administration had recorded to the unalloyed cooperation received from the legislative and judicial arms.
The governor acknowledged the legislative support in curbing security challenges, particularly with the legal backing given to the establishment of the regional security outfit, the Amotekun Corps.
“From its inauguration to today, the 7th Assembly has left no one in doubt about its focus and vision: rendering selfless and stellar services to the people. Our state admires the monumental achievements and people-oriented legislation this noble House has delivered in the last one year.
“The Executive has enjoyed robust relationship with this Honourable Assembly with neither of the arms compromising its role, integrity and independence. As a government, we owe the successful delivery of our Development Agenda, which is our pact with the people, to the unalloyed cooperation of this Distinguished House and on behalf of the Executive, I thank the House for their tremendous cooperation”, he added.
Congratulating the lawmakers, Oyetola noted that Osun state legislature ranks as one of the most peaceful, productive, creative and people-oriented Assembly in the nation.
The Speaker, Osun House of Assembly, Mr Timothy Owoeye who extolled the purposeful leadership of Governor Oyetola applauded him for promoting harmonious relationship between the three arms of government in the state.
Owoeye described the achievements of the House in the last one year as unprecedented, saying the Assembly had passed several bills to impact positively on the lives of the citizens.
“The Assembly has successful delivered quality legislation and ensured effective oversight; accountable and democratic assembly; electronic parliament, effective public engagement and legislative research centre”, he said.
In separate remarks, former Speakers of the House, Mr Adejare Bello and Dr. Najeem Salaam, commended both the governor and the Speaker for keeping the House together through focused leadership, mutual support and symbiotic relationship.
While commending the leadership traits of the governor, the lawmakers who spoke in turns similarly lauded the high sense of commitment and dedication to legislative duties exemplified by the leadership of the House.
Those in attendance included: former Speakers of the Assembly; Mr Wale Afolabi, Prof. Mojeed Alabi, Mr Adejare Bello and Dr. Najeem Salam. Others include members of the State Executive Council, top government functionaries, political stalwarts among others.
