Voting has commenced as scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in many parts of the Osun West Senatorial District, with party chieftains and voters commending the electoral body.
Electoral materials arrived around 7.00am (local time) with accreditation and voting commencing as early as 8.00am(local time)
Voters were seen casting their ballots at Gbedore Local Government and at the Olaoluwa Local Government area of the State.
The Presiding Officer in Charge of the Poling Unit 001, Serifat Oyeyode told journalists that so far so good the card reader is working well.
Law and order
She said all election materials were intact and in order and as you can see the electorates are also coordinating themselves.
The security agents were also seen on standby to maintain law and order. In Iwo, police were seen deflating the tyres of vehicles who flouted restriction order.
At St James’ Primary School in Ogbagba, Ward 003, there was large turn-out of the electorates.
The Commissioner for Health in the State, Rafiu Isamotu commended INEC for keeping to time for the process of the election, while expressing optimism of the victory of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, APC.
The formal Gubernatorial Candidate of Labour Party, Fatai Akinbade also commended the INEC.
He said the electioneering process was well coordinated by the INEC and maintained that his party was assured of victory.
Election in Ede
At Ede, the country home of People Democratic Party PDP candidate, Ademola Adeleke, there was peaceful atmosphere as voters trooped out en mass.
Adeleke voted at 8:34 am local time at ward 2, unit 9, Saagba Abogunde compound, Ede North and pledged to do his best, if voted to the Senate.
Similarly, the National Conscience Party Agent, Abdulsalam Muheedeen Adewale expressed satisfaction with the turnout of voters.
He also lauded the peaceful conduct of voters at Alajue One, Ward 4, Unit 10, cottage junction area, Ede.
Former Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Honourable Adejare Bello, who voted at ward 3, Unit 4, Olagunju Agba Akin at about 9:25praised INEC for the process put in place for the conduct of election.
He commended the process of simultaneous accreditation and voting system, saying it will disallow voters from loitering around and will not be able to tamper with voting.
He also commended the electorate for the maturity displayed across the polling units.
Election in Odeomu
Former Minister for Youth Development, Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi, urged the INEC to sustain credibility and standard set up by the last administration.
He expressed satisfaction with the starting of the election,but noted fear in the final collation, saying election is usually rigged at the collation centre.
Similarly, voters in Odeomu, Ayedade Local Government turn out in good numbers, to cast their votes for their individuals’ choice candidates at the on-going Osun West By-election.
‘No negative incident ‘
At polling unit 16, Ward five, the INEC presiding officer, Ms Precious Agbor said the voter cards reader machines was working fine.
Agbor said the election process was going on smoothly and that no negative incident had been recorded at the unit, as the Coordinating Minister text were orderly and civil in their conducts.
She said they were verifying the voters and that immediately after they were verified, they were allowed to cast their votes and leave thereafter.
The party agent for APC, Isa Jimoh and PDP agent, Muhamed Abdulmalik at the polling unit both attested to the smooth conduct of the voting process at the unit.
They lauded the INEC officials for keeping to time and commencing the election process as scheduled.
The Police, NSCDC officials and other security officers were at strategic locations in the town.
