Umunze (Orumba South LGA)-The people of Owerre-Ezukala in Orumba South Local Government Area (LGA) in Anambra celebrated their Ogba-Ukwu Cave Festival at Iyiafor Village on June 21.

In an address of welcome by Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Cave, Prince Joel Madu, expressed gratitude to Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra for adopting the Ogba-Ukwu Festival as state Government’s project.

This will no doubt facilitate its development and utilisation as tourist attraction to the state.”

Madu notes: Ogba-Ukwu Cave is a natural gift by God, the creator to the people of Owerre-Ezukala; one of the largest caves in Nigeria”.

According to him, when fully developed as Tourism Centre, it will attract many economic dividends to the state and country as it will create many direct and indirect employment opportunities.

The cave is a natural gift, that is not attached to any deity and not associated with any fetish beliefs,” Joel Madu said.

Chairman, Iyiafor Village, the custodian of the Ogba-Ukwu Cave, Chief Julius Madu said the cave had some household utensils that were fascinating to behold.

He said that when fully developed, the Federal Government would find it a worthy tourism industry.

Among those present at the occasion was Cletus Nkwor, Secretary to the BoT of the cave.
