Oyo government suspends local government chairman

The Oyo State Government has suspended the Executive Chairman of the Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of the State, Mr. Olamijuwon Alao-Akala who is also a son to a former Governor of the State, Mr Alao Akala.

The suspension came at the instance of the defection of Mr. Alao-Akala from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Action Democratic Party (ADP), the platform on which his father, Dr. Christopher Alao-Akala, is contesting for the governorship seat of the state.

The State Government immediately announced and swore-in the former Vice-Chairman, Mr. Abass Bello, as the Acting Local Government Chairman, in place of Alao-Akala through the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Bimbo Kolade, at the Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan, the state capital.

The sacked Council boss, who was elected on May 12 on the platform of the APC, defected, along with some of his councillors, to the ADP to support the father’s ambition.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, Mr. Bimbo Kolade stated that the Council had suspended the chairman for alleged misconduct and abuse of office.

He said four other councillors from the same Local Government Area were also suspended alongside Alao-Akala and their names are: Mr Olawunmi Olutayo, Adeniyi Adekunle, Oladele Sunday and Alagbe Ayodunmade.

Also suspended were, Akande Ranti, Olabode Abiola, Salaudeen Muhammed and Muhammed Yusuf, other four councillors from the neighbouring Ogbomoso Central Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

The commissioner presented a Letter of Authority to the Acting-Chairman, Bello, and urged him to discharge his duties in accordance with the Constitution of the Country.

Responding, Mr. Abass Bello said he would not do anything to jeopardisethe confidence reposed in him while expressing confidence in the success of the APC in the coming elections.
