Abuja: The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in collaboration with other security agencies, has re-activated a joint security operation named ‘Operation Sweep FCT.’ This initiative is aimed at enhancing the safety and security of residents in the region.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, announced the re-activation of the operation in a statement on Wednesday. The operation, which was officially launched on Tuesday, has received strong backing and strategic direction from the Minister of FCT, Chief Nyesom Wike, aligning with his commitment to safeguarding all residents.
The initiative seeks to promote continuous inter-agency collaboration and improve operational effectiveness within the FCT. The operation involves multiple agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). Additional participants include the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Fire Service, and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Furthermore, the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (VIO), Development Control, Environmental Enforcement and Monitoring Teams, along with other supporting security, emergency, and regulatory agencies, are part of the operation. Prior to deployment, the Heads of Security Agencies in the FCT addressed participating personnel at Eagle Square, emphasizing a renewed mandate for proactive, intelligence-led, and highly visible security operations.
Operation Sweep FCT is designed to deter criminal activities, bolster visibility policing, and ensure swift, coordinated responses to emerging security threats. To achieve effective coverage, the territory has been divided into strategic sectors to enhance rapid deployment, effective patrols, and a robust multi-agency security presence across all districts and communities.
