Police Boss orders investigation into Offa armed robbery incident

The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris has ordered a full investigation into the robbery incident that occurred on Thursday in Offa, Kwara state.

The IG said his intelligence Response Team and others should assist in getting the hoodlums arrested.

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr Lawan Ado disclosed this on Saturday in Ilorin at the Police headquarters on the latest development about the bloody Offa armed robbery incident.

Mr Ado said contrary to some media report, 17 persons comprising nine policemen and women, eight civilians were killed within the Offa Police station and the banks along the street and not thirty people.

The police commissioner stated that five banks, Union, Eco, GTB, First Bank , Zenith bank and Ibolo micro finance bank were attacked while the armed robbers carted away with some riffles belonging to the police.

According to him, seven suspects have been arrested, one along Igosun road and six others at different locations in Offa and are presently assisting the police in their investigation .

He said that seven vehicles abandoned were recovered from the armed robbers while the specific numbers of those injured are yet to be ascertained as they are receiving treatment at various hospitals.

The police expressed its heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims and wished the injured quick recovery.
