Police creates new area commands in Cross River

The Nigeria Police Force, Cross River State Command has received a boost with the creation of three new area commands.

Commissioner of Police in the State, Hafiz Inuwa said that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris created the area commands for effective coverage of rural communities.

In 2017, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris created three additional Area Commands of Tinapa, Ugep and Akamkpa. This is an unprecedented breakthrough for policing in Cross River State, Inuwa said.

He attributed the success of the 2017 carnival and festivals to the additional area commands and joint operations with sister agencies, stating that they had the safest and most peaceful carnival celebration last December.

The Commissioner disclosed that last December, the command intercepted a trailer along Ikom Ogoja highway conveying 1,994 cartons of text books worth millions of naira.

Inuwa further disclosed that on inspection, the police uncovered that the cartons contained French, Christian Religious Knowledge, Physical Education, Welding and Technical Drawing text books heading to Lagos State in western Nigeria, for disposal.

On investigation, it was discovered that a staff of the Cross River State Ministry of Education and her accomplices were going to dispose-off the books without the knowledge, approval and authority of the State Government. These text books belong to the State Government and were to be distributed in schools.

We are conducting a thorough investigation on this matter because we want to fish out others, who may be sabotaging government's efforts to provide our children quality education. We will not spare any saboteurs; they will be prosecuted.

I cannot see a situation whereby the government will spend millions of naira to train our children only for some people with questionable character to sabotage such efforts and denying our children the basic necessities of life because when a child is denied education, it amounts to killing that child, Inuwa explained.

Drive to Maintain Peace

He commended the media, Nigerian and State Governments and other security outfits for supporting the police in its drive to maintain peace, order and security amongst the different conflict prone communities.

I assure the people that the command has perfected new relentless strategic onslaught against armed robbery, gangsterism, kidnapping, sexual and other violent crimes, he noted.

The Police Commissioner added that their robust public relations campaign was necessary for their vision of People's Police and Community Partnership in Policing.
