Abuja: The Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC) has urged the government to implement practical measures to restructure the education system to align with current global demands. The non-governmental organization, focused on promoting transparency and accountability in governance, emphasized that such restructuring would enable students to achieve success.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mrs. Lucy Abagi, the Chief Executive Officer of PPDC, made this appeal in Abuja during a meeting with a delegation from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). The students presented Abagi with an honorary award of excellence, acknowledging her contributions to promoting good governance.
Abagi urged the government at all levels to establish platforms that allow Nigerian students to explore and develop in accordance with global standards. She highlighted that Nigerian youths possess talent and innovation, but require more support from the government to realize their potential. Abagi stressed the need for actionable steps rather than mere documentation, to address the challenges faced by students.
She expressed concern over the high poverty levels in the country, noting that many families struggle to afford basic necessities. Abagi pointed out that numerous students face difficulties in paying school fees and sustaining themselves during their educational pursuits.
Regarding the award, Abagi remarked that it signifies the students’ union’s commitment to transparency as an essential principle. She commended the students for their dedication to accountability, stating that their efforts highlight the importance of openness in achieving sustainable development and justice.
Comrade Salamatu Dawood, Chairperson of the National Association of University Students (NAUS), FCT Chapter, presented the award, acknowledging Abagi’s advocacy for justice and transparency. Comrade Sadiq Zango, National Director of Research and Innovation at the NANS Secretariat, also recognized the PPDC’s contributions to promoting good governance and accountability.
