Nouakchott: His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority and President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, landed safely in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania upon invitation from His Excellency President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani. President Bio’s delegation includes ECOWAS Commission President Dr. Omar Alieu Touray and former ECOWAS Parliament Speaker Hon. Mohamed Sidi Tunis.
According to Sierra Leone News Agency, this visit supports ongoing regional efforts to enhance cooperation and coordinate responses toward evolving security challenges facing West Africa and the Sahel region. President Bio and President Ghazouani are set to engage in high-level consultations on the Sahel security situation, focusing on issues such as terrorism, violent extremism, transnational organized crime, and illicit trafficking. These threats continue to undermine peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region.

peration, and collective action to address emerging security concerns, aiming to promote lasting peace throughout West Africa. Upon arrival at Nouakchott-Oumtounsy International Airport, President Bio was warmly received by President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani and senior Mauritanian officials, including Foreign Affairs Minister Mohamed Salem Merzoug.
This visit highlights a strong ECOWAS-Mauritania partnership, reflecting a shared commitment to enhancing regional security cooperation, fostering stability, and advancing peacebuilding efforts across the Sahel and the broader West African sub-region.
