Abuja: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced new service chiefs as part of renewed efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen the nation’s security architecture. A statement announcing the change of guards on Friday, signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, named General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.
According to Voice of Nigeria, Major-General W. Shaibu has been appointed Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke is now Chief of Air Staff. Rear Admiral I. Abbas assumes office as Chief of Naval Staff. The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, will continue in his current role.
President Tinubu, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, extended profound appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff and other former service chiefs for their patriotic duty and distinguished leadership. He charged the newly appointed service chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them by upholding the highest standards of professionalism, vigilance, and unity that define the Nigerian Armed Forces.
According to the Presidency, all appointments take immediate effect.
