By Emeka Ohuoha : In line with its resolve to enthrone transparency, accountability and quality in public finance management, the Anambra State government in collaboration with the World Bank-Assisted State and Local Governance Reform Project (ANSLOGOR) has commenced the training of Planning Officers and Statisticians in the state civil service on Strategic Planning and Results-Based Budgeting.
Delivering a keynote address shortly before declaring the workshop open, the state commissioner for Economic Planning, Budget and Development Partners, Mr. Mark Okoye described strategic planning as key to attaining structural transformation and sustainable development. According to him, no modern economy has made significant progress without planning as it helps to define actions that shape and guide an organization or government.
Mr. Okoye stated that Anambra State is lucky to have a governor who had a clear vision and mission before assuming office and who had demonstrated in practical terms his resolve to achieve set objectives adding that the numerous achievements which the Chief Willie Obiano administration has recorded in all sectors of the state economy, could be attributable to the Governor’s economic blueprint developed long before he mounted the saddle of leadership.
Mr. Okoye called on the planning officers and statisticians to reflect the skills acquired during the workshop in the course of their duties particularly in the area of monitoring and evaluation which he said have posed great challenges to attaining a results based budgeting in the state.
Over 70 planning officers and statisticians are benefiting from the 4-day training.
