Post: Quality of Coastal Highway Construction Clears Doubts Among Lawmakers

Lagos: The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Interior, Mr. Abdullah Ahmed, announced that initial doubts held by some members of the National Assembly regarding the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway have been resolved. The clarification came after a recent inspection tour, where the quality and pace of the construction were highlighted.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mr. Ahmed, who accompanied the Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, on the inspection tour of road projects in Lagos and neighboring states, remarked on the impressive progress of the project. “We thought this project was going to take forever, but the speed we are seeing has cleared doubts. The quality of work we are seeing here, as a construction engineer, it is top-notch,” he stated. Ahmed also commended Hitech Construction Company Ltd., the contractor responsible for the project, for their capability and execution.

Dr. Samuel Mamuyon, spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-South region, expressed optimism about the longevity of the highway, suggesting that it could last up to 200 years. He emphasized the significance of the project as a gift to Nigerians and credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership. Mamuyon highlighted, “This is the best Nigerians can have as a gift. We want to thank God Almighty for giving us a president in Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who believes in the future of this nation.”

Mrs. Chioma Nweze, Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Community Engagement for the South-East, expressed gratitude towards the National Assembly for their support of the road infrastructure initiatives. She assured that the roads being constructed would connect all regions in Nigeria and hoped they would benefit future generations. “We are here to say tell Mr. President ‘thank you’ for remembering all the regions. All the jobs under Ministry of Works are going on at the same time,” Nweze commented.

Echoing these sentiments, Mr. Bola Ajilesoro, a Member of the House of Representatives Committee on Works, praised the project as a legacy that would inspire hope among Nigerians. Having visited multiple regions, Ajilesoro affirmed the project’s significance, appreciating the minister’s efforts. “This is a legacy project that will uplift all of us,” he declared, expressing gratitude to President Tinubu for his vision of the coastal highway.
