The President, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Bolaji Akpan Anani has commended the Nigerian government for securing the release of the 82 abducted Chibok school girls.

The President, who made the commendation in an interview with Voice of Nigeria, said that government and the International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC had put in a lot of effort in securing the freedom of the girls.

We are very glad that the girls are back and the effort put in by all parties is highly commendable, we will not go into details but we believe that the government have details of everything, Anani said.

He, however, expressed optimism that the remaining girls will be found soon.

‘Providing more help’

Anani stressed that the Nigerian Red Cross Society will not relent in providing humanitarian services to all those in need despite the numerous challenges it is facing.

We have our volunteers all over the country they are always the first respondents to any emergency situation in the country even though we have the challenges of funding and mobility we have always not relented in our responsibilities, you could remember that some time back we lost six of our member in the North East; that wouldn’t stop us, we are still remembering them and we are also in touch with members of their families, he assures.

He called on the government, individuals and corporate organisations to support the Nigerian Red Cross Society as it strive to provide humanitarian services to many people who are in need.
