Regional water scheme inaugurated at Aguleri

Otuocha (Anambra East LGA)-Traditional Ruler of Aguleri, Igwe Michael Idigo, says the newly inaugurated Regional Water Scheme will promote unity among Umu Omambala — Aguleri, Umueri and Umuoba-Anam communities.

Igwe Idigo said this during inauguration of a regional water scheme by Gov. Willie Obiano, at Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area (LGA).

According to him, the establishment of the water scheme to serve three communities for now will help to restore peace and unity in the areas.

He urged his fellow traditional rulers to maintain peace in their respective communities.

Traditional Ruler of Umueri, Igwe Ben Emeka linked the enmity that existed among Umu Omambala in the past largely to absence of binding projects, such as this water scheme in the areas.

“My happiness is that this water project will promote peace among the communities because we will now drink from the same source that binds us as a people,’’ Igwe Emeka said.

He thanked the Government for the project, urging them to do more work in all communities in the area.

He promised that they would do their best to protect the water project against vandalism.

Traditional Ruler of Umuoba-Anam, Igwe George Ekwealor, observed that before the installation of the water scheme, his people always encountered difficulties while searching for portable drinking water.

He said that Omambala River, which was not fit for drinking, served as the only source of water to Aguleri, Umueri and Umuoba Anam communities.
