Reps: Public Accounts Committee Unveil ICT Hub, Website

The Public Accounts Committee of the House of Representatives yesterday unveiled its Information and Communications Technology ICT hub and website to ensure openness and ease of working on the report of the Auditor-General of the Federation-its primary responsibility.

The Public Accounts Committee PAC is one of the important standing committees of the green chamber of the apex parliament that has responsibility to track how public funds were expended by public officials in Ministries Departments and Agencies MDAs.

Chairman of the House Committee Hon Kingsley Chinda (Rivers, PDP) who led other members of the committee at the unveiling ceremony said that the committee is made up of representatives from all the 36 states of the federation and Federal Capital Territory FCT.

The lawmaker in an opening remark at the event further said that the committee at its inaugural meeting made commitment to raise the standard of the committee’s work from paper publication to website.

He told the audience gathered at the event that the committee had cleared all the queries raised from the report of the Auditor-General of the Federation to it from 2010-2014.

On the challenges being faced by the Committee in carrying out its constitutional duties, he identified low capacity in computer skills by staffers and lack of basic equipment and writing tools as some of the challenges.

At the well attended event,some invited guests including a representatives of the Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki and Clerk to the National Assembly Alhaji Mohammed Ataba Sanni Omolori lauded the efforts of the committee to move to website base platform.

Highpoint of the the event was the launch of the website and the presentation of 4 volumes of the committee’s report to the House in the past four years.
