Kaduna: The 1982 alumni of the old students of Rimi College, Kaduna, are set to convene for their Annual General Meeting (AGM) from October 24 to October 25. The event will take place in the college’s Assembly Hall, as announced by the Class Forum’s Chairman, Mr. Peter Sofa, and Secretary, Mr. Daniel Laaki.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the AGM will focus on discussions regarding the welfare of members and strategies to enhance relationships with retired members. Mr. Sofa emphasized that the meeting will provide an opportunity for members to share life experiences, with retired individuals expected to discuss their experiences post-retirement to assist those still in service. This exchange aims to prepare active members for life after their professional careers.
Additionally, the AGM will serve as a platform to interact with current students of the institution, which was established in 1949. Mr. Sofa expressed interest in understanding the experiences of current students, especially after the school transitioned from a boarding school to a day school.
The old students have expressed concerns over the deterioration of the school’s infrastructure, particularly following the sale of approximately 83.5 percent of its land to other institutions and private developers. Mr. Sofa recounted a recent visit to the school that revealed significant changes, with former school facilities now converted into private residences. The alumni are determined to address these issues with the Kaduna State authorities during the AGM, hoping to halt further land sales and preserve the remaining space for educational purposes.
Mr. Sofa urged all alumni to attend the AGM, highlighting the importance of the issues to be discussed, including the election of new officials to lead the body for the next three years.
