RMAFC and FIRS Collaborate to Enhance Nigeria’s Fiscal Governance Through Revenue Recovery Exercise

Abuja: The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) have launched a new initiative aimed at boosting the Federation Account. The two agencies have inaugurated Engaged Consultants for a Revenue Recovery Exercise, a firm tasked with ensuring that all revenues due to the Federation are fully accounted for and remitted.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Dr. Mohammed Shehu, Chairman of RMAFC, announced at the inauguration ceremony in Abuja that this partnership marks a significant step in strengthening Nigeria’s fiscal governance. He emphasized that the exercise is a strategic initiative, not merely an administrative task, aimed at blocking revenue leakages and enhancing transparency across the three tiers of government. The initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Dr. Zacch Adedeji, Chairman of FIRS, praised the RMAFC chairman’s proactive leadership and reiterated FIRS’s commitment to the collaborative effort. Represented by Mr. Shettima Tamadi, Coordinating Director of FIRS, Adedeji highlighted the urgency of bridging Nigeria’s significant revenue gap through stronger partnerships.

Mr. Joseph Okechukwu, Secretary to the commission, urged all stakeholders to support the consultants in their assignment, which is expected to be completed within six months. The focus is to ensure that all identified recoverable revenues are promptly returned to the Federation Account, thereby supporting national development priorities.

On behalf of the consultants, Mr. Temitayo Ojeleke accepted the assignment, describing it as a national call to duty. He assured both the commission and FIRS of their commitment to professionalism, transparency, and delivering measurable results. Ojeleke concluded by stating that the inauguration signifies a milestone in RMAFC’s efforts to improve inter-agency collaboration, accountability, and revenue generation for the federation’s benefit.
