RTEAN Suspends Secretary-General Over Alleged Misconduct

Abuja: The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has unanimously resolved to suspend Mr. Yusuf Adeniyi from his role as Secretary-General with immediate effect.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the association’s Deputy National President for Administration, Amb. Muhammad Bishara, announced the decision in a statement. An emergency NEC meeting was held on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the association’s National Secretariat. This meeting was organized in line with the association’s constitution to ensure transparency, accountability, and integrity in leadership. The meeting, authorized by the association’s operational guidelines, was presided over by Amb. Muhammad Bishara.

During the meeting, the NEC extensively deliberated on the conduct of Mr. Yusuf Adeniyi. After evaluating reports and hearing from relevant parties, the council determined that Mr. Adeniyi’s actions constituted misconduct and a breach of trust. The NEC decided to suspend him from his position pending the outcome of an investigation. A seven-member Investigative Committee, chaired by Dr. Samuel Agbede with Mr. Adamu Jalaluddeen as secretary, has been tasked with examining the allegations and is expected to submit its findings within two months.

Bishara assured association members and the public of RTEAN’s commitment to due process and justice. He emphasized the association’s focus on promoting member welfare and advancing the road transport sector in Nigeria.

In response, Mr. Adeniyi, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, denied the allegations and stated he had not received any official suspension notice. He recounted a disagreement within the association related to a court case and expressed his efforts to reconcile involved parties. Adeniyi claimed he was recently denied office access and had not been informed of any specific allegations against him.
