Abuja: The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled its National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, and National Youth Leader, Mr. Ogbonna Chukwuma Uchechukwu, due to allegations of misconduct, financial impropriety, and abuse of office. The decision was made public during a press briefing in Abuja.
According to Voice of Nigeria, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Rufus Aiyenigba, announced that the expulsion was sanctioned by the National Working Committee (NWC) after they adopted the recommendations of a Disciplinary Committee. This committee was specifically set up to investigate the allegations against the officials.
Aiyenigba revealed that the action came after months of internal investigation and disciplinary proceedings. These efforts culminated in the adoption of a White Paper by the NWC during its meeting on October 23, 2025. He recounted that Gabam, Uchechukwu, and the National Auditor, Mr. Clarkson Nnadi, had been suspended on June 24, 2025, following the establishment of a prima fac
ie case of misconduct and financial impropriety against them.
To ensure due process, the party constituted an independent Disciplinary Committee on July 4, 2025. This committee conducted a two-week probe and submitted its report on July 18, 2025. The resulting White Paper was reviewed and adopted on August 15, 2025, which led to the final decision announced on Thursday.
In addition to Gabam and Uchechukwu, several other members, including Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, Abubakar Dogara, and others, were expelled for alleged disloyalty and unauthorized entry into the party’s national secretariat on July 28, 2025.
Aiyenigba stated that the NWC’s decision seeks to restore discipline and integrity within the party. He also mentioned that several administrative reforms recommended in the White Paper would soon be implemented to enhance internal governance. These actions are effective immediately from October 23, 2025, and were unanimously adopted by the NWC members.
The committee reiterated the SDP’s commitment to tra
nsparency, accountability, and adherence to the party’s constitution in all its operations.
