S/E Govs to inaugurate a 10 man Economic Committee Team

By John Ndu : The South East Governors in Nigeria have continued to set out agenda that would further strengthen the economy of the states in the South East to enhance proper integration.

This was disclosed after a meeting of all the South East Governors at the Lion Building, Government House, Enugu.

Briefing newsmen after the close door meeting, the Chairman South East Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ebony State, Engr Dave Umahi, pointed out that every state in the South East had submitted to the chamber, two persons that would form the economic team for South East.

Chief Umahi gave the names of the members of the Economic team as Professor Barth Nnaji, Prof Osita Ogbu, Dr Chukwuma Agu, Dr Eme Okoro, and Prof Bernard Odoh.

Other members are Mr Ifeatu Onejeme, Mr Mark Okoye, Mr Dennis Ekuma Nkama, Mr Obinna Mbata and Chief Iyke Njoku.

He said that the economic team, making a total number of 10 persons, would be inaugurated on the fourth of June, being the next meeting of the governor’s, at Nike Hotel, Enugu state.

Governor Umahi Said the team would always ensure economic integration of South East states, especially in the areas of power generation, rail ways, sea port and other meaningful development that would cement the bonds of the states.

The Chairman explained that the economic team would embark on preliminary study and invite some consultants for proper presentation of findings in the next meeting of the South East governor’s forum

Speaking on various ways to improve agricultural activities among the states, Engr Umahi, revealed that the governors discussed extinctively with members of Bank Of Agriculture (BOA) to fashion out ways to partner with them for the development of South East states.

He disclosed that the governors had mandated the BOA to submit to their various states, their modus operandis as well as different ways the South East States could benefit, in return make a presentation to the economic team, for adequate promotion of agriculture among the states.

The Chairman while speaking further on several ways the governors had planned to develop South East states, stressed that the forum had finalized arrangements to set up an independent power plant that would improve power generation in the South East.

He maintained that a team of geometrics had been invited to inject its wealth of knowledge in power generation, to boost socio-economic activities among the states in the South East.

Governor Umahi assured the people of the South East of their commitment and collaboration to transform South East states and solicits for their support and prayers.

The meeting was attended by the Governors of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, who represented the Imo State Governor.
