Senate describes attack by Senator Omo-Agege as treason

The Nigerian Senate has condemned in all totality the act by hoodlums who walked away with the symbol of authority of the Chamber, (mace) describing the action as an act of treason.

The senate said the hoodlums were led by the suspended Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

This action is an act of treason, as it is an attempt to overthrow a branch of the Federal Government by force and it must be treated as such. All security agencies must stand on the side of due process and immediately mobilize their personnel to retrieve the mace and apprehend the mastermind and perpetrators of this act,” the Senate said.

According to the Chairman, Senate committee on Media and Public Affairs, Dr Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, said the action is also an affront on the Legislature , and the leadership of the House has come to express their support against the action.

The senate is currently in an executive session.
