Senate President swears in new senator

President of the Nigerian Senate, Dr, Bukoka Saraki has sworn in Mr. Shuaibu Isah Lau as a replacement for Senator Sani Danladi representing Taraba north senatorial district.

The swearing in ceremony was conducted just at the resumption of wednesday’s plenary session at the red chamber.

Senator Isah Lau’s assumption of office as Taraba north Senator, follows the dismissal of Senator Sani Danaladi, who was sacked by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

It would be recalled that, the Supreme Court, on Friday 23rd June, 2017, ordered Senator Sani Danladi (Taraba North), to vacate his seat immediately and refund all salaries and allowances he received within 90 days.

This was contained in the judgement of the court on the appeal filed by Shuaibu Lau challenging the decision of the court of appeal that had upturned his victory during the primary that he was wrongfully substituted.

The supreme court, therefore, directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to issue a Certificate of Return to Mr. Lau and withdraw the Certificate earlier issued Senator Danladi who is a former Deputy Governor of Taraba state.
