Senate reconvenes after two-week recess

The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday reconvened in plenary after its two-week recess to observe the Muslim celebration of the Eid-el fitri which held last week.

On resumption, the legislators debated the acting President’s request for the confirmation of Mr. Lanre Gbajabiamila as the substantive director general of the Nigerian Lottery Commission, leading to five resolutions.

Senate resolved to suspend all issues relating to the confirmation of nominees from the Executive until the issues of confirmation as contained in the constitution and laws of the federation are strictly adhered to.

It also urged the Acting President to follow through on the constitution and laws enacted by the National Assembly, as it related to the confirmation of appointments.

The Senate however rejected a prayer calling on Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, to immediately swear in the resident electoral commissioners recently confirmed by the Senate before the recess.
