The Nigerian Senate has resumed from its two-week Easter recess but suspended plenary in honour of its member, the late Senator Mustapha Bukar who died earlier this month.
Senator Bukar until his death, was 63 year old and represented Katsina North Senatorial District in the 8th Assembly. He was also the Chairman senate Committee on Capital Market.
Tuesday’s suspension of plenary was sequel to a motion moved by the Leader of the Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan, thereafter, a minute silence led by the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki was observed for the deceased.
Senator Saraki also announced that a valedictory session would be held on Wednesday in honour of their deceased colleague who served the country immensely, describing his demise as a great loss.
Also, Senator Abu Ibrahim who represents Katina South said every life will test death. We are in this world as actors on stage: we come and do our action and leave. He was a prominent politician, a well known person, he was my in-law, my son is married to his daughter, he was a highly respected person.
Senator Victor Umeh prayed God to spare the National Assembly of these deaths. We carry a lot of stress , a lot of problems of Nigerians here. These sudden deaths are signs that those who are in the National Assembly should try to take things easy. Nigerians should pray for the members of the National Assembly, he prayed.
This is the second time a Senator is dying within a month, the 8th Assembly also lost Senator Ali WAKIL, who passed on few weeks before the sad news of Senator Bukar’s death broke out.
