The Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency in Nigeria (SMEDAN) says, it is set to convert the Idu Industrial Centre in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, into a furniture and wood enterprise cluster that will meet international standards.

The Agency’s Director-General, , disclosed this in an interview.

According to him, A study was conducted on the viability of the Industrial Centres and we picked Idu to start as a pilot project for the year 2020 before we go fully into Public Private Partnership agreement with interested private sector to develop other Industrial Centres in other places.

We would give those people into furniture and wood work a place where they can work, a place where they can meet other regulatory agencies, a place where they will have all the international modern equipment, where they will have their shops and workshops will exist.

We have independent wire plants in the place so that whoever wants to do any work can go into our workshop, pay some money and get the job done and go back to his shop.

The furniture and wood cluster will enhance production of furniture that meet standard requirements, reduce the importation of the commodity and empower entrepreneurs in the sector.

He disclosed that the fund needed for the project was already provided in the 2020 budget allocation for the agency, and looked forward to the project’s execution and launch by President Muhammadu Buhari.

and if funds start coming to the agency early enough, that means we have one full year to implement the budget timely and without any rush we will do the needful for the development of the Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises’ sector in the country, he added.
