Sokoto State bans motorcycle movement in 4 Local Governments

The Sokoto state government has imposed a 12 hours restriction on the movement of motorcycles in four local government areas of the state where bandits have been on the loose recently.

This was disclosed in a statement to Journalist by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal on Media and Publicity Muhammad Bello, after over two hours closed door meeting of the State Advisory Security Council (SASC) held at Sultan Palace in Sokoto.

According to him, the affected local government areas are: Isa, Sabon Birni, Rabah and Goronyo.

“Apart from the motorcyclists restriction which will last from 6pm-6am, the SASC also resolved that all motorcycles and their respective riders in the affected local government areas will be duely registered by constituted authorities” the statement read.

He further disclosed that Police, Federal Roads Safety Corp (FRSC) in conjunction with traditional authorities have been directed to ensure compliance to the directive.

He appealed to members of the public in the state and those in the affected areas to understand that this measure was being taken in the best interest of all.

The Governor also advised people of the State to continue to cooperate with government policies to ensure sustainable peace in the State.
