Post: SON Awards 86 MANCAP Certificates to 50 Kwara Businesses

Ilorin: The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has announced that it has certified 86 products across 50 companies in Kwara with the Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) from January to November. This was disclosed by the Director-General of SON, Dr. Ifeanyi Okeke, during an interaction with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of the 4th Quarter Presentation of MANCAP Certificates to businesses in Kwara.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Okeke, who was represented by the Kwara State Director of SON, Mr. Ayeni Feyisayo, emphasized that this accomplishment is a significant milestone for the state. He elaborated on the efforts of Kwara-SON to surpass its previous achievements annually, with this year’s performance reflecting their dedication. Okeke highlighted that MANCAP plays a crucial role in maintaining the highest standards in product manufacturing nationwide.

MANCAP is a mandatory product certification scheme initiated by SON to guarantee that all locally manufactured products adhere to relevant Nigerian industrial standards before being marketed or exported. “We have a major responsibility as an organisation to ensure that we verify products, certify and evaluate them,” Okeke stated.

He further explained that certification is a pivotal responsibility that sets SON apart from other regulatory bodies, as SON’s certification through MANCAP determines the international viability of products. The Director-General noted that consistent monitoring over the past five years has led to an increase in product certifications, particularly in the water and bread production sectors in Kwara.

In Kwara, over 34 percent of those in water production and 26 percent in bread production have been certified, underscoring the importance of prioritizing these sectors to ensure product quality and standards. Okeke reiterated SON’s dedication to delivering quality products to consumers, pledging enhanced monitoring and certification efforts for improved quality.

Hajia Abiola Bayero, Head of Unit, Food Tech, highlighted the benefits of MANCAP, stating that it fosters consumer confidence. Bayero pointed out that certification is essential for ensuring product safety, as products are tested to verify their compliance with standards.

Mr. Abdulmimeen Bello, Head of Audit at Adejumo Nigeria Limited, one of the MANCAP-certified businesses, commended SON for their support in helping companies meet required standards. He noted that SON’s efforts are advantageous for businesses in the long term.

Mr. Ibiyemi Opeyemi, Head of Human Resources at United Foam Products Limited, also expressed appreciation for SON’s role in maintaining product quality. He acknowledged that SON’s support has ensured their products are synonymous with quality and standards.

NAN reports that some of the MANCAP-certified businesses include Mighty Hercules Manufacturing and Supply Limited, United Foam Products Limited, and Funsho Bakery Concepts, among others.
