Post: South Africa Launches Partnership to Boost Jobs and Economic Growth

Abuja: South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has launched the third phase of a government-business partnership, aimed at creating one million jobs and increasing the country’s annual economic growth to over three percent by 2030.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ramaphosa, speaking at the launch in Johannesburg, emphasized that the government would focus on providing policy certainty, efficient regulation, capable institutions, and reliable public infrastructure. The initiative seeks to improve the ease of doing business across the nation.

The partnership aims to establish work streams across various sectors in cooperation with businesses, setting clear objectives, measurable targets, firm timelines, and accountable leaders. Ramaphosa highlighted the importance of rapid intervention where implementation lags, reviewing policies or regulations hindering investment, strengthening institutional capacity, and addressing corruption or vested interests obstructing progress.

The President underscored the critical role of businesses in investing, expanding production, opening new markets, developing local suppliers, and creating jobs. He urged businesses to invest in skills, support small businesses, and ensure timely payments to suppliers. Ramaphosa stressed that the partnership should operate transparently and within legal frameworks while maintaining the state’s regulatory responsibilities.
