Stakeholders call for unity among citizenry

The Oba of Lagos, Riliwanu Akiolu has called for unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians as the country kicks off new regime on may 29th.

Oba Akiolu made the call when a delegation of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS paid him a visit in his palace.

The monarch urged Nigerians to always preach peace and shun all acts capable of destabilizing the country.

He urged the citizenry to always pay their tax in order to consolidate the efforts of government whom he said cannot do it alone.

Nigeria is our country; we do not have anywhere to go. We should preach unity and give peace a chance so as to have a stable country that will be conducive for living. Don’t fight or kill yourselves for any leader because politicians don’t fight. Try to be honest in all you do and have good character, he said.

The Acting Director of Studies NIPSS, Nasirdeen Usman said the health sector has not done too well and needs to be revamped.

He said their visit to the Oba was to primarily negotiate on the ways the health sector can be made better than it used to be.

Fund the health sector

According to Usman, the incoming government should ensure that health sector is adequately funded in the way the local hospitals can be brought to standard to enable them compete favorably with those in the Diaspora.

The wealthy Nigerians embark on health tourism to get their health in order while the less privileged have to manage their lives till they die. If the health sector is standardized, no one would want to travel far for health issues since the country can offer that.

Let the Primary health care centers be repositioned and funded so that the citizenry will have free medical treatments through health insurance scheme,” he said.

Highlight of the visit was the inspection of a standard hospital built by Lagos State government for free medical treatment of the community.
