Stop De-Marketing Your Country, Umahi Tells Nigerians

Abuja: Minister of Works, David Umahi, has called on Nigerians at home and abroad to stop de-marketing the country, urging them to rather promote national unity, optimism, and patriotism. Umahi, who stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, decried what he described as a growing culture of negativity and public condemnation of Nigeria.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Umahi expressed sadness over the tendency of some Nigerians to de-market the country both outside and inside Nigeria, often speaking negatively without understanding. He emphasized the ease of critiquing when not directly involved in addressing the challenges and called for a change in mindset. Umahi stressed the importance of prioritizing Nigeria, fostering unity, and acting with integrity.

Umahi pointed out the paradox where Nigerians endure hardships and adhere to rules abroad while ignoring them at home. He urged for hope and resilience within Nigeria, highlighting the potential to achieve significantly greater success domestically compared to abroad. He urged Nigerians to be optimistic, forward-looking, and to love one another, warning against bitterness and lack of appreciation.

The minister also praised President Bola Tinubu’s resilience and commitment in tackling a challenging economic situation inherited from the previous administration. Umahi commended the president’s leadership courage, noting his refusal to publicly complain despite inheriting substantial debts and economic challenges.

According to Umahi, despite the daunting economic challenges, there are signs of improvement, such as reduced inflation and GDP growth over 4.23 percent. He expressed optimism about the ongoing reforms and infrastructure developments, which he believes will address economic challenges and contribute to national prosperity.

Umahi encouraged Nigerians to focus on hard work and constructive engagement, dismissing detractors as mere noise-makers. He emphasized the importance of diligence and resilience, echoing the biblical principle that hard work leads to success.
